Note: All are accessed by active logging roads, remember to use caution, and give logging trucks the right of way.

The following is a brief recap of these destinations, noting more details and information are provided at the Scarlet Ibis location:

San Josef Bay:

• Located in Cape Scott Provincial Park, a 35 minute (19km) drive straight west from the Ibis, followed by a flat 40 minute hike to the beach
• One of the most beautiful beaches on Vancouver Island, plenty to explore, including an option up to Mt. St. Patrick

Palmerston Beach:

• Located roughly an hour west and south of the Ibis. Follow signs roughly 11 km towards Cape Scott, then turn left on to Palmerston Main another 14 km, about 3km past Raft Cove.
• The beach is a beautiful remote pebble beach with a shoreline pounded by severe winter storms that roll in one after the other
• Walk the beach at low tide and check out the tide pools

Raft Cove Provincial Park

• Located roughly an hour west and south of the Ibis. Follow signs roughly 11 km towards Cape Scott, then turn left on to Palmerston Main another 10 km, to Raft Cove parking lot.
• The trail is roughly 2 km to the beach however there are some challenging sections and is typically extremely muddy in areas. Allow a good 40-45 minutes for this trail.
• The trail opens up to more than 2 km of beautiful beach, stretching to the mouth of the Macjack River
• The trail cuts through coastal old growth forest of hemlock, western red cedar and Sitka spruce.
• Beach is known for great surfing, though typically uncrowded due to the remoteness

Hecht Beach

• Locate mostly south and west of the Ibis, take the road towards Winter Harbour, then turn west on to West Main, followed by another right on to Top Knot Main going about 6km past the Grant Bay turnoff, then left on to Hecht Main for approx. 5 km.
• The beach is beautiful and remote, and there are many small rocky headlands separating the various gravel beaches
• Known as one of the best beaches on Vancouver Island for beachcombing
• Camping on the beach here is popular as is surfing, fishing, swimming and hiking

Grant Bay

• Take the road to Winter Harbour, then turn right on West Main, following signs for Grant Bay (roughly one hour from the Ibis)
• From the parking lot, the trail is just 0.5 km and opens to a gorgeous beach
• Bounded by a shore of white sand and rocks, the beach is regarded as one of the most beautiful on the island

Winter Harbour

• Follow signs from Holberg to Winter Harbour, roughly 40 minutes south
• Winter Harbour is a tiny village located off Quatsino Sound on the edge of the Pacific Ocean.
• Fishing lodges, campgrounds and marinas make this an ultimate fishing destination

Koprino/Quatsino Provincial Park

• Koprino is located roughly 30 km south of Holberg, roughly 40 minutes. Head south on SE Main.

• Quatsino Provincial Park is a 654-hectare undeveloped park which contains known
archaeological sites and protects a mature forest, some small lakes, and the sheltered inlet of Koprini Harbour
• A small 11 site campground is located at Koprino Rec Camp
